You can get your chart computed in seconds — and you should, if only to check your work. But calculating it once by hand is the fastest way to actually understand the system: where each number comes from, why master numbers interrupt the arithmetic, and why two websites can give you two different "destinies" from the same name.
All you need is your full birth name, your date of birth, and the discipline to follow one set of conventions all the way through. Here is that set, stated plainly.
The ground rules (where charts go wrong)
- Reduce by digit sum: 38 → 3 + 8 = 11. Keep reducing until one digit remains — unless you land exactly on 11, 22 or 33. Those are master numbers: stop there (with one exception below).
- Use the full name from your birth certificate — first, middle(s), last. Nicknames and married names are later overlays, not the base chart.
- Strip diacritics before mapping letters: Šárka sums as SARKA, José as JOSE, Müller as MULLER.
- Pick a Y convention and keep it. The simple one, used here: Y is a consonant, always.
The letter table
Pythagorean numerology maps the alphabet onto 1–9 in rows: A J S = 1, B K T = 2, C L U = 3, D M V = 4, E N W = 5, F O X = 6, G P Y = 7, H Q Z = 8, I R = 9. Write your full name, put each letter's digit underneath, and you have the raw material for three of your six numbers.
A = 1, B = 2 … I = 9, then J starts again at 1. If you can remember that the row restarts at J and S, you can rebuild the whole table on a napkin.
The three numbers from your birth date
- Life Path — reduce day, month and year each on its own (masters preserved at every stage), then reduce the sum of the three. Born 29. 5. 1984: day 29 → 11 (stays), month 5, year 1984 → 22 (stays); 11 + 5 + 22 = 38 → 11. Life Path 11.
- Birthday number — the day of the month, reduced (masters preserved). Born on the 22nd → 22. A smaller, sharper gift than the Life Path: one specific talent you lead with.
- Personal Year — reduced day + reduced month + reduced current year, all reduced to one digit. This is the exception: the Personal Year runs the plain 1–9 cycle, so masters are not preserved here. It is the one number in the chart that changes annually.
The three numbers from your name
Sanity check before you read anything: Soul Urge + Personality must equal the Expression before final reduction. If the vowels and consonants do not add back up to the whole name, a letter went missing somewhere — the most common error in hand-calculated charts.
- Expression (Destiny) — sum every letter of the full birth name, reduce, masters preserved. The toolkit: what you are built to do.
- Soul Urge (Heart's Desire) — sum only the vowels (A, E, I, O, U), reduce, masters preserved. The engine: what actually feeds you.
- Personality — sum only the consonants, reduce, masters preserved. The door: the first impression that walks in ahead of you.
Reading the six together
Resist reading the numbers as six separate fortunes. The chart is one sentence: the Life Path is the road, the Expression the toolkit, the Soul Urge the fuel, the Personality the vehicle's paint, the Birthday a spare key, the Personal Year the current weather. The interesting findings are the tensions — the introvert's road with the performer's toolkit, the caretaker's fuel behind the executive's paint.
And if the arithmetic feels error-prone — it is; that is why the sanity check exists. The computation should be boring and exact, so the interpretation can be the interesting part.
